Olivier van der Toorn

(Ph.D. student, DACS group, University of Twente)

The DACS (Design and Analysis of Communication Systems) group at the University of Twente, is a leading group in the area of dependability of networked systems in Europe, with a focus on Internet Security (Sperotto, Pras) and security of critical infrastructure (Remke, Veni grant). The DACS group brings expertise in network traffic monitoring and analysis to this project, with a specific focus on network security. He received an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente in 2017 and B.Sc. degree from the same university in 2015. His Bachelor thesis titled “A First Look at HTTP(S) Intrusion Detection Using NetFlow/IPFIX” has been published in the Integrated Network Management (IM) conference of 2015. Olivier’s research interest include network security and network measurements.

Dr. Anna Sperotto

(Assistant Professor, DACS group, University of Twente)

Dr. Sperotto is assistant professor in the area of Network Security at the DACS Group. She received a Ph.D. degree from the same university in 2010, with a thesis titled “Flow-based Intrusion Detection”. She holds an M.Sc. degree (cum laude) and B.Sc. degree (cum laude) from the Ca’ Foscari University, Venice, Italy. Her research interests focus on Network Security, with a measurement approach. She is involved with the IRTF Network Management Research Group (NMRG). Papers she has co-authored have been awarded the IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize in 2013, 2015 and 2017. She was a visiting researcher at the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), University of California, San Diego, USA.

Dr. ir. Roland van Rijswijk-Deij

(University of Twente and SURFnet)

Dr. ir. Roland van Rijswijk-Deij is a researcher at the DACS Group. He recently received a Ph.D. degree (cum laude) from the University of Twente, with a thesis titled “Improving DNS Security”. He received an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the University of Twente in 2001. Roland also works for SURFnet bv, the National Research and Education Network in the Netherlands. His research interests include network security and network measurements, with a particular interest in DNS and DNSSEC. His research has been awarded the IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize in 2015 and 2017 and the ACM SIGCOMM IMC Community Contribution Award in 2015. Roland regularly presents at Internet forums such as RIPE, ICANN, NANOG, TNC and others. Roland is one of the driving forces behind the development of the OpenINTEL platform, which will provide the data used in the proposed research.
